For the fourth consecutive season, the Carolina Hurricanes are going to compete for the Stanley Cup. After the 5-3 comeback victory over the Buffalo Sabres, your Carolina Hurricanes are going to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Mathematically, they’re in. Now, there’s a game to talk about, we’ll talk about the playoffs a little later.

Carolina found themselves in a 2-0 hole early in this one after another slow start. It was the powerplay that grabbed the momentum back for the Canes, and the team even managed to correct themselves and wake up. However, they wouldn’t open up their account for the game until the second period when Sebastian Aho had a shot just fool everybody and half the Sabres’ lead.

Despite the Sabres quickly restoring their two-goal cushion, there was a moment later in the second period where Sebastian Aho was given a shot by a Buffalo defender away from the play and at that point, Carolina flipped the switch and went some shade of psycho. Carolina was the better team before this, but after this incident, Carolina looked like a team that could walk through the Sabres at will

Teuvo Teravainen would cut the lead in half again prior to the end of the second period. Jordan Staal would tie the game up in the third. Aho would tally again to put the Canes ahead, and it would turn out to be the goal that sends the team to the Stanley Cup playoffs for a fourth consecutive season as it was the game-winner. Staal would seal the game with an empty netter late in the game.

Carolina started slowly again, but they won. No matter what, Carolina is going to be competing for the most difficult trophy to win in the sporting world. They’re competing for the holy grail of the hockey world. Who cares if it was a solid performance or not? After a nine-year playoff drought, just enjoy this. As someone that watched this team during the drought, this day will forever be worth celebrating.
