After the events of the historic game in the Buckeye state on New Years Day, the Canes will host their Metropolitan division foes tonight as the Columbus Blue Jackets will make the trip from Ohio to Carolina to combat the Canes at PNC Arena. In a game that should be a lot of fun to watch, it’s the Canes return to ESPN+ and Hulu tonight. A game worth watching.

Carolina comes into this game on the back of some great results. Having won 5 of their last six, and 10 of the last 12, the Hurricanes come into this game with some great form. Now, Carolina’s roster gets to host a Metropolitan division foe in the hopes that they can extend their lead atop of the division. With that in mind, let’s dive into the stats going into this game.

Columbus comes into this one a game below NHL .500 with hopes of trying to get back into the playoff hunt. They need to start to get some results if they want to try and get back into the results that they need to fight for the playoffs. Or, they are just waiting for the start of the 2022 NHL draft in the summer when they will get to add another top prospect to their ranks.

As for the Canes, tonight becomes a game of outworking a Columbus team that has nothing to play for but pride. These can sometimes be harder than games against foes at the top of the standings, as these teams play up to the chance to cause an upset and beat a great team. Carolina is going to need to play well to avoid that tonight.

Carolina’s roster tonight will get the chance to redeem itself after the loss to the Florida Panthers in Overtime. They need to get back in the win column and there would be no better team to beat than a struggling Metropolitan division opponent struggling. Scoring will be at a premium tonight with the Canes playing a difficult Columbus roster. Let’s hope we see them add two points to their totals.
