Carolina is going to play a team tonight in the Calgary Flames who are every bit the equal opponent for this fantastic Hurricanes team. With the boys coming off a great 7-4 win in Columbus, the wave of momentum has been scuffed by the extended time off as the Canes embark on this back to back.

Carolina will need to keep the Calgary top-line quiet. They can score, but they’re kind of top-heavy. Shutting down the scary hotline of the Flames could go a long way to just beating them in Raleigh and completing the season sweep over the former Atlanta-based Franchise. It’s not easy, but strong defense helps win games.

When the Canes play, they need to play with the scoring threat that they did in the 2nd half of the Columbus game. If they can’t score again, Calgary is too good defensively and in goal to expect a mass come back on. If the Canes want to push their 4 game winning streak to 5, they need to take an early lead. Force the Flames to chase the game and challenge their depth.

Calgary’s blueline is known for its ability to jump in on the rush and generate chances. It’s imperative that the Canes keep the Flames under pressure and do not let them get rid of the pressure that builds on them. Solid defensive performances and good goaltending from the Canes early-season Vezina candidate will likely see the Canes over the line.

This is going to be a great game to watch, and it’s starting at PNC Arena. The first of this back-to-back is nearly here, and we can’t wait to get started.
