Tonight, the Canes look to go 3 for 3 on the long road trip to Western Canada. It’s the other half of Alberta that will form the Canes opponent. Edmonton is in a slump and the Canes are coming into this game having won their last 3. Tonight’s game is the midway point of the trip and could be a Stanley Cup finals preview if these two teams are good enough.

Carolina’s deadly talent will need to be on display tonight. This game has the ability to become a shootout early, and the Oilers have two of the best players in the league at their disposal for this kind of game. If the Canes don’t show up with the ability to both score and defend, this game could get ugly quickly. Even if the Oilers are in a rut, the Canes will need to be at their best.

Carolina’s players will need to stay out of the box, or this Edmonton Oilers’ power play will eat them alive. When you face a PP as talented as this with the best player in the game and one of the runners up on the same line, it’s scary. Now the Canes will need to power through this game and get the result they need. Stay out of the box and don’t go to the well often with the penalty kill.

When the Canes play this game, they will need a win, and it cannot be denied. They will need a result. They’ve done so well rebuilding after their rough patch following the previous road trip, and this could very much see the Canes continue to strengthen their grip on the Eastern playoff spots and seek a trip to the playoffs to play for Lord Stanley’s cup.
