The Carolina Hurricanes have finally signed widely-touted prospect Jack Drury to a 3-year entry-level contract. At the NHL level, the deal will pay Drury $832,500 per season. He will earn $70,000 at the AHL level for all three seasons, and will receive $277,500 in signing bonuses.

Jack Drury, selected in the 2nd round (42nd overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has just come off a successful first professional season in the SHL while playing for Växjö Lakers HC.

In 41 SHL games played in the 2020-21 season, Drury scored 10 goals and notched 20 assists for a total of 30 points.

Drury has represented the United States during a number of international tournaments, as well. Drury played in the 2019 and 2020 World Junior Championships, and won silver at the 2019 tournament in Canada. He won a bronze medal with the Americans at the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Latvia, scoring two goals in nine games played.

Before turning professional via his stint with the SHL, Drury played 2 seasons at Harvard University, and scored 63 points (29g, 34a) in 60 total collegiate games played. Drury was named Second Team All-ECAC and Second Team All-Ivy League in 2019-20 after ranking third in power-play goals (11), and tied for sixth in goals (20) among D-I skaters.

Drury’s father, Ted, played 414 career NHL games between 6 different franchises (Hartford, Columbus, New York Islanders, Ottawa, Calgary, and Anaheim) from 1994-2001; his uncle, Chris, is a former NHLer as well, having played 892 career NHL games from 1998-2011 between Buffalo, Colorado, Calgary, and the New York Rangers, where Chris currently serves as President and General Manager.

We will likely see Drury in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves this upcoming season, but he may have the potential of being called up to the Carolina Hurricanes in the event of injury. If you ask me, he’d be on my shortlist of players to call up alongside Ryan Suzuki, Jesper Sellgren, Dominik Bokk, and Joey Keane.
