Rod Brind’amour is a Hurricanes legend. Historically great on the ice, off the ice. With the way the season is going so far should he be on the hot seat?

Rod Brind’Amour has done many things well in his career as the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes. But right now, there needs to be searing coals under his seat behind the bench right now.

This team has lost 3 games in a row, and he has changed nothing, and is consistently deploying players in positions where they are expected to fail and not be able to do what they need to.

Let’s start with an example: Ryan Dzingel .

He has had 2 straight 20+ goal seasons playing in a depth role, in the middle six. He isn’t someone that needs top line ice time, protect him from top pairing and he will pose a threat to any D core league wide. So Roddy throws him on a forechecking line and uses him sparingly because…. I don’t even know. To send a message maybe?

Not enough? Joel Edmundson gives the puck up, gets spun like a record, and Rod decides to fix this by putting him ON THE TOP PAIR?

IF the reason for this is not “so Jaccob Slavin can stop him from messing everything up” then he needs to be taken off that pairing yesterday. I’ve had my differences with Joel Edmundson this season, but some of this is on Rod for constantly putting him out there in positions he’s uncomfortable in.

Want more examples? I’ll gladly give some more.

Jordan Staal is well past his prime offensively. I don’t think I’m going around spreading lies there. Yet there is a factor of stubbornness to keep him in the top six above the newly acquired Vincent Trocheck, who was acquired STRICTLY to be added to the top 6? That is NOT good enough from Rod. He has not been willing to adjust to the roster he been given.

Jake Gardiner has been the premier offensive D man since Dougie Hamilton got injured against Columbus prior to the All-Star break. Yet, Rod flat out refuses to put him with Slavin, effectively making Gardiner a Dougie replacement. Yet, he’ll try it with Edmundson who is known in St Louis for being one of the worst D men they’ve had?

Look, I love Rod, and I’m REALLY angry after egg they laid against Montreal. But do you, after the eggs they laid against Dallas and Colorado,  feel like I’m out of place to be angry by this team. I don’t want to see Rod go, I just want to see this team well coached. Rod or otherwise, we need a good coach. That is non-negotiable.

Question for Cardiac Cane readers: Do you think Rod should continue to coach this team?

Next. Canes need to win the weekends. dark
