The Carolina Hurricanes are in desperate need of a win tonight to keep their playoff hopes alive. Here are the three keys to establishing just that.

The Carolina Hurricanes have an opportunity tonight to do multiple things. Multiple things that you wouldn’t have guessed were possible after the last two terrible games, but yet, here we are.

They have the opportunity to sweep the Montreal Canadiens and end a chapter of rivalry between the Original Six Canadian team and Canada’s actual favorite team. Doing so would establish their dominance over all things Canada and name them the supreme team of Canada for the rest of the season. At least, it should.

They also have the opportunity to close out the month of February with a winning record. They are Currently 6-5-1 on the month and a win tonight would elevate them to 7-5-1. After the last two awful weeks, who would have thought that the tough fought out wins at the beginning of the month would come in handy.

But most importantly, a win tonight would actually put them into a playoff spot once again. The Metro Division is a strange world, but the Hurricanes didn’t really lose pace behind the Blue Jackets over the last two losses.

So we have established that there are treasures a plenty to be gained by winning tonight, but how does this team, which frankly looks lost with only a single win their last four games, come back and establish themselves? It starts with what isn’t broken.
