Carolina Hurricanes All Star Jaccob Slavin Participated in the NHL Accuracy Shooting Skill Event last night, setting a record and winning the Challenge.

Sometimes I enjoy being wrong. This is one of those times. Two days ago I wrote an article stating that the challenge that Carolina Hurricanes All Star Jaccob Slavin would have the best opportunity to win would the Hardest Shot Event. Only a few hours later the event rosters came out and Slavin was chosen for the Accuracy Shooting Skill, something I mentioned that wasn’t his strength.

I was wrong. So wrong. And I couldn’t have been happier about it.

Instead Jaccob Slavin goes out on the ice for the event, which involved five targets inside the net, four in each corner and one in the center, and completes it in record time with only eight shots taken at epic speed. Take a look:

Blink and you will miss it indeed. In his first NHL All-Star Game appearance, Jaccob Slavin has managed to show the league that the Carolina Hurricanes Defender is in fact, an elite two way defender.

Slavin had talked to former Carolina Hurricane and teammate Eric Staal before the competition and was given a few points and tips. Smart move, considering that once a upon a time Staal ( tied with Marian Hossa) was the winner of competition of the same name.

Jaccob Slavin was among the last to shoot, with only Alex Pietrangelo behind him. With Leon Draisaitl holding the fastest current time at 10.257 which was second only to Jamie Benn‘s 10.204 back in 2012, Slavin knew he had to be the fastest to ever do it. 9.505 seconds later that became a reality and Slavin became king of NHL Accuracy. Now he needs to show that off back home.

The full results of the competition came out as follows:

  • Jaccob Slavin, Carolina Hurricanes — 9.505 seconds
  • Leon Draisaitl, Edmonton Oilers — 10.257
  • Jonathan Huberdeau, Florida Panthers — 13.704
  • Alex Pietrangelo, St. Louis Blues — 13.763
  • Tyler Bertuzzi, Detroit Red Wings — 13.868
  • Mark Scheifele, Winnipeg Jets — 15.160
  • Tomas Hertl, San Jose Sharks — 17.161
  • Nico Hischier, New Jersey Devils — 19.550

Tonight Jaccob Slavin and the Metropolitan Division will take on the rest of the league in a three on three tournament seeking to split the cash prize of $1,000,000. Slavin has already proved that he is one of the best true defenders in the league so expect him to get plenty of minutes on the ice as the Metro defends its All-Star title.
