The Carolina Hurricanes and R&D Brewing recently hosted a private tasting event for their new beer, Storm Brew. Does it live up to the hype that it’s been getting?

This past Friday I was invited to a private event hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes and R&D Brewing along with a small group of Canes fans that included two of my friends. We were able to try Storm Brew ahead of its release to the general public. I know the question on everyone’s mind is, “Does it taste good?” We’ll get to that in due time.

As my friends, who will remain nameless for their privacy, and I were walking to the building, an SUV pulled up and the guy in it asked us if were he was pulling into was a parking space. I tell him yeah it is and just continue on my way, not realizing who it was until we were walking up the stairs.

It was my favorite player, Jordan freaking Martinook.

We go inside and sit down at the bar and a few minutes later, he walks in. We, of course, talk to him and he’s exactly how you’d expect. Super down to Earth, easy to talk to, and personable. And (fun fact) he also likes Taylor Swift.

Peep at my friends and I when you see Marty’s dad on facetime.

The entire time we were there, people from R&D Brewing and the Carolina Hurricanes are talking to me about the whole Marty Party that was happening later that evening. I was more than happy to tell them about what may end up being my greatest accomplishment.

Now, onto Storm Brew. I won’t give away too much because A) you have to try it for yourself if you are of legal age, and B) I don’t know how much I can actually say. But here’s what I will say, it is something that is easy to drink and you will have no problem throwing them back during the Canes home games at PNC Arena.

I also discussed the availability of Storm Brew once it is released. To start with, it will be on tap at PNC Arena and available all over Wake County with more locations to follow. And like any beer, you can go to the brewery and get it once it’s released as well.

Shortly before I left, I was talking to the Hurricanes media people and one of the ladies that worked for the brewery asked if I wanted a case of beer. Of course, I said yes. So guess who’s friends were jealous when they saw him walking out with a free case of Durham Bulls beer.

Then we were off to the Marty Party at The Oak, which was just as legendary as you’d imagine.

Question for CC readers: Will you be trying Storm Brew when it is released?
