The Carolina Hurricanes lost 4-0 to the Boston Bruins in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals to finally bring an end to their fairy tale season.

This isn’t going to be your traditional ‘here is what happened, here is what we can do better’ article. Much like the Hurricanes weren’t a ‘traditional’ hockey team in a ‘traditional’ hockey market this season. After all, there is a long way to getting better.

The Hurricanes may have gotten eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals, but there are so many reasons to look back on this season with fondness. This team has been all about shaking things up this season; shake things up, they did.

This postseason has been a wild ride. The Hurricanes managed to eliminate the defending Stanley Cup Champions in seven games in the first round. The odds-on favorite for a majority of the regular season were swept by the bottom-seeded team in the playoffs in the first round.

Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins were swept in Round 1 by the New York Islanders, who were subsequently swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in Round 2, who were then swept by the Boston Bruins in Round 3.

I could go on and on about the chaos that ensued in this year’s postseason, but instead, I’d like to focus on the positives pertaining to the Hurricanes specifically. What brought this team from the basement to the Eastern Conference Finals? Read on to find out.
