3. Petr Mrazek: March 2, 2019 vs. Florida Panthers

The saves made by Petr Mrazek in this game were huge, which led to an eventual overtime winner by Sebastian Aho to top the Panthers 4-3. Mrazek took over this overtime and gave the Hurricanes the chance to win as the Panthers has opportunity after opportunity to seal a victory.

About 17 seconds into overtime, Mrazek got a piece of a Vincent Trocheck shot as Trocheck broke in passed the defense. Mrazek got just enough of the shot in order to send it wide of the net out of harms way.

A desperation play by Mrazek occurred that helped extend the game and was the most impressive of his stops. Mike Matheson was in alone, but Mrazek skated out aggressively and dove for a poke check that denied his scoring chance. Justin Faulk was there to clean up after the puck was knocked off of Matheson’s stick.

Then, Mrazek made a pad save on Jonathan Huberdeau, which led to a two on one for Aho and Nino Niederreiter. Niederreiter got defenseman Keith Yandle to commit and he hit Aho for the goal. This increased a Hurricanes win streak at this time of the season to five games. This is the game that really helped catapult Mrazek to be the team’s number one goalie.
