The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off two hard fought losses to the Capitals. This battle showed fans the necessity of young talent, and highlighted the tough road this team will face. We, however, believe that this is still just the beginning of an incoming Carolina conquest.

The Washington Capitals delivered on their home ice in a Friday matchup that started the playoffs with a bang. The Hurricanes saw the development of one of their future young stars, Andrei Svechnikov, and his willingness to step-up to the challenge and refuse to be denied his moment.

That trend of valiant efforts continued on Saturday, producing, unfortunately, the same result through disheartening means. Washington, up two games against Carolina seems to have all the momentum; but, this playoff appearance, and the willingness for Carolina to stay in it till the end should insight hope for the even brighter days to come for this often-struggling franchise.

These players are entering phase one of this potential dynasty; punch your ticket to the big dance. This is their opportunity to gain much needed experience. These players are learning to operate under the brightest lights the sport has to offer, and how they respond will dictate their eventual decent into NHL dominance.

For every youthful talent that exists amidst the makeup of a hockey team, there must be a collection of veterans; because no matter how great the natural skill, you cannot teach experience. Players like Justin Faulk, Michael Ferland, Justin Williams and Jordan Staal are all players that have amassed notable amounts of NHL playing time and have been involved in vital hockey moments.

In Part 1 of our series we discussed why the Carolina Hurricanes may have the first piece of their future dynastic reign in place; their young, talented, superstars in training. The necessity of balance in the construction of a dynasty, specifically in the area of talent and experience, cannot be understated; I would dare say it was paramount.
