The 2017-18 season is in the books and the Carolina Hurricanes are in a bit of a mess. What should management consider for next season?

Following the kinda-sorta departure of GM Ron Francis,  it looks like team owner Tom Dundon has decided to gut the management rather than the roster. Well, I’m gonna do something really rare on my part, this being: a good deed.

The next GM of the Carolina Hurricanes will be thrusted right in the middle of an extremely tough situation. We’ve got some fantastic defensive youth, (ie. Hanifin and Slavin) some fantastic potential offensive superstars, (ie. Teravainen and Aho) some quickly aging veterans that really need to go and a nightmarish goaltending situation that will hurt us for years unless someone does something about it.

Since I appear to be in such a helpful and selfless mood, this article will serve as a frame of reference for the next GM of the Carolina Hurricanes. Just remember, if the Hurricanes don’t encounter any success for a while, it’s because the GM didn’t follow my guide.

Whoever our next GM ends up being, they’ve got their work cut out for them. Here are some of my suggestions for future improvement. Whether this be for the greater good in the long term, or for short term benefit is up to management.

Let’s start off with the worst of the bunch: our whole goaltending fiasco.
