A top overall prospect for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, that the Carolina Hurricanes would love to have, is defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.
It was a great night for fans of the Carolina Hurricanes after the conclusion of a regular season for the first time in a very long time. Carolina landed the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, by way of the lottery. They only fell short to the Buffalo Sabres, one of the lottery favorites to get the top overall pick.
This is huge for the Canes considering the level of talent available in this class. Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin is at the top of the board for the Canes, and if he slips to the second pick that would be huge.
Bleacher Report projected the Canes to snag right winger Andrei Svechnikov, from the Barrie Colts, with the second overall pick. Adding a potential top notch scorer to the mix would help the Canes tremendously too. However, if the Canes did manage to land Dahlin it would be a huge feat considering the Sabres are likely to take him first.
Carolina’s blue line had an up and down season in 2017-18. The likes of Justin Faulk and Noah Hanifin struggled to help out in any way in the defensive zone. This squad could really use a few more two way defensemen to help out on a nightly basis. They have too many defenders that only perform in one zone.
The entire trajectory of the off-season changes now for the Canes, after they got so lucky with this draft pick on April 28. The hockey world will watch as the Canes look to finally get that player that can help them make a successful playoff push.

If they do land Dahlin, they could have one of the best defensive groups in the NHL. He’s a can’t miss prospect at his position and the Canes should do a lot to see if he can come to Raleigh. This is awesome to see the Canes get some good news for the first time in a while.
