Time to give Cam Ward more looks

While Cam Ward was part of a huge Canes letdown in the overtime loss to the Sharks on Dec. 7, you could feel a different attitude from the team. Ward made some big saves early in the game to keep things competitive the entire way.

Meanwhile, the Canes started to lose ground to the Ducks halfway through the first period, derailing any momentum built from the early goal from Williams. Darling was outplayed by the goalie at the other end as well.

It’s been tough for Darling to keep his save percentage above .900 all season. The reason the Canes originally ditched former goalie Eddie Lack for Darling was to get a solid starter ahead of Ward. Yet, Ward’s save percentage is much better than Darling’s right now.

Ward will get the nod in the Dec. 12 battle with the Vegas Golden Knights. It’ll be interesting to see how the entire team responds to a five-game losing streak and a tough stretch through the state of California.
