Reports suggest that the Carolina Hurricanes have made a late deal to send defenseman John-Michael Liles to the Boston Bruins.
According to reports, the Carolina Hurricanes have traded pending unrestricted free agent defenseman John-Michael Liles to the Boston Bruins.
John-Michael Liles, 35, has netted 6 goals and has 15 total points in 64 games this season and is a -3. Liles has tallied 359 points over his 783-game NHL career that has spanned over twelve years with three different teams. He was on the NHL All-Rookie team following the 2003-2004 season.
The Colorado Avalanche drafted Liles with the 159th overall draft pick in the fifth round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
The veteran defenseman has been one of the best in the league in terms of shot blocking and shot suppression. He knows how to keep the puck away from the net, sporting a 52.42 corsi for percentage.
The Carolina Hurricanes received prospect Anthony Camara, a 2016 third round draft pick, and a 2017 fifth round draft pick in return for Liles.
Camara, 23, was a third round draft pick of the Bruins in 2011. Since turning pro, he has accumulated 35 points in 150 AHL games. He has yet to play in an NHL game.
The move marked general manager Ron Francis‘ second deal of the day. He sent goalie Dre MacIntyre to the Chicago Blackhawks for defenseman Dennis Robertson earlier. He also shipped out pending unrestricted free agents Eric Staal and Kris Versteeg to the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings, respectfully, for prospects and draft picks.
According to reports, the Boston Bruins also acquired forward Lee Stempniak from the New Jersey Devils, so they were very busy in the final seconds leading into the NHL trade deadline at 3:00 pm (EST) on Monday.
