Three Carolina Hurricanes Games You Don’t Want to Miss in 2020
The Carolina Hurricanes still have 15 home games remaining on the season. These three games are the ones you cannot afford to miss.
When playing at home the Carolina Hurricanes have a decided advantage. So far this season they are 17-8-1 When playing at PNC Arena. That is about a 2:1 win loss ratio. That is incredible. In fact only a single team in the NHL has more wins at home, the Pittsburgh penguins, but we will have the opportunity to sour their record in the future.
What does this all mean? It means that if you have been holding out to see if these are the same ol’ Hurricanes of the past to go to a game, it’s time to stop holding out. It also means if you have been consistently going, you have been rewarded time and time again. 17 home wins also meant 17 Storm Surges at the All Star break so far with another 15 opportunities to come.
With a division as ruthless as the Metro division this also means that the wins have to keep coming, especially at home if they want to ensure another playoff spot come April. Last season they finished the 41 home games with a 24-13-4 record and are on pace this season for a 27-12-2 finish to this season, perhaps even better.

Carolina Hurricanes Vs Edmonton Oilers February 16th, 2020
I can just write Connor McDavid here and move on and it would be justified. But let’s take a quick look as to why this game is a must-see for Canes fans. First of all, it features the best player in the sport. Also Connor McDavid will be there. They say he is fast. I know a few hundred Islander fans who would aggressively disagree with that statement.
It also features a teetering Oilers organization that is fighting for it’s playoff lives. While they currently sit second in the division, they are in fact tied not only with third place for points, but also the two wild cards spots. This has them only three points ahead of Winnipeg and Chicago for those wildcard spots. They are also only a point behind the Pacific leading Vancouver Canucks.
This madness sound familiar? Its because the Carolina Hurricanes are not so separate in their own chase for the playoffs. The only difference is the level of points in where they play. As it stands, the Hurricanes, who are in the final wildcard spot, would lead the Pacific division with a full three points.
Now pit these two desperate teams against each other and you have the making of an epic match up featuring some of the best to ever play the sport. It is really only poetic that it is the only time in the season that the Hurricanes will host the Oilers. They have to make it count, and you have to be there to see it.
Hornets Night: Hurricanes vs New York Rangers, February 21st, 2020
For the first time in Carolina Hurricanes History, they will have a night where they celebrate the Charlotte Hornets. Hornets Night is rumored to feature Hornets style warm up Jerseys that might be up for auction after the game. It will also be a third Jersey night as it falls on a Friday. This is the chance to be a part of something new and exciting with the Canes.
It is also a chance to be a part of a somber moment as the Team will more than likely pay tribute to one of the greatest athletes and basketball players in history, taken from us too soon. While Kobe Bryant wasn’t a perfect man, there is no denying the impact he has had on the world of sports.

Not many athletes transcend their individual sport and become a household name in virtually every household across the country, even those that have never watched basketball, or any sport for that matter. We have all shouted “Kobe” when we toss anything into the trashcan from across the room. Now it takes on more meaning.
A win on that day will also be an opportunity to have a Storm Surge where the other team is invited as they all pay tribute to the life of an athlete that has made an impact on everyone. Kobe, if invited, would absolutely have been part of a Storm Surge. This makes this game an absolute cannot miss game for the Hurricanes.
Pride Night Hurricanes vs Colorado Avalanche February 28th, 2020
This is one of my favorite themed nights in all of Hockey. Some of you might disagree with me, but frankly, I do not care if you do. To me it reminds me that this is one of the greatest sports in the world, because frankly, I have yet to meet someone who couldn’t get out there are play in some capacity if they wanted to.
Pride night takes it a bit further than simply “Hockey is for everyone”. It’s about marginalized communities across the nation, especially the LGBTQ Community. Year after year the Carolina Hurricanes do an excellent job of hosting Pride Night with objective of driving positive social change and fostering more inclusive communities with the belief that Hockey is for Everyone.

The only thing that makes this any better than seasons past is the fact that it will be held during the one time a year that the Colorado Avalanche are visiting. Expect to see plenty of pride taped sticks on both ends of the ice for warm ups. The Carolina Hurricanes will once again be donned in their third jerseys for this friday game.
The Colorado Avalanche have long since been “best friends” with the Carolina Hurricanes, especially on social media. I am really excited on how the banter will go between these teams, especially on Pride Night. Last time these two teams played each other the Hurricanes Scored three goals in the final five minutes of the game to avoid being shutout and winning what could have been a 1-0 game.
There are so many different games I could have chosen from the final fifteen, but these three stuck out to me the most. Yes they are all in February and all within a week or so from each other. Sometimes such is life. Perhaps for those out of town, this is the perfect stretch of hockey to come visit your Carolina Hurricanes.
