2. Amount of big names available right now

Outside of both Duchene and Tavares, there’s quite a few big names available on the trade market. Vadim Shipachyov of the Calgary Flames, Rick Nash of the New York Rangers, and James Neal of the Vegas Golden Knights are all players that could be on the move soon.

Hanifin would be worth more than most players available on the market right now, which makes him even more lucrative to shop. He gives the Canes options on the open market when exploring options to improve the overall roster.

More names will continue to get added to the trade block and things start to take shape in the playoff picture, drawing closer to the trade deadline. Montreal has been among a number of trade rumors and might be willing to explore options for most players on the team.
