Darren Dreger has been the man when it comes to updating us on NHL trade rumors lately. On NHL On The Fly, Dreger continues to provide insight about Tim Gleason.
“It’s my sense that Tim Gleason will be moved very soon.”
That’s what Dreger said about the Tim Gleason trade rumors. This shouldn’t come as a huge shock to Carolina Hurricanes fans. His name has been thrown around an unbelievable amount over the past couple of weeks. It now looks almost certain that a Tim Gleason trade is imminent.
The Toronto Maple Leafs seem like the most likely trade destination for the 30-year-old stay at home defenseman. John-Michael Liles seems to be the player that would come to Carolina to take Gleason’s place on the roster. This trade seems like a trade that would work for both sides.
Tim Gleason fills a much needed shutdown defenseman role on the Maple Leaf roster. Liles would fill the need of a puck moving defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes. Liles also gets paid slightly less than Tim Gleason. Keep in mind that Gleason would have to approve a trade due to his No Trade Clause.
The Carolina Hurricanes may need to put another player in the deal. This player would likely be a forward with low salary. It could be a player from the bottom six on the Carolina Hurricanes, or it could be an AHL player. Riley Nash could be a player sent to Toronto in a deal like this. Elias Lindholm looks to be the new third line center, and with Manny Malhotra on the team as the fourth line center, the Carolina Hurricanes have plenty of center depth. Nash could be expendable. Nash is only 24-years-old, so it may be smart to hang on to him for the future. That is just speculation at this point.
What isn’t speculation is the imminent Tim Gleason trade. At this point, it seems like Tim Gleason will be traded.
