Justin Peters and Canes’ defense fought off a desperate San Jose team with minutes remaining in a close contest to win 3-2 Friday night. The Carolina Hurricanes have secured a point in their last six games. Confidence is at an all-time high and Caniacs are soaking it up like sunshine on a cold winter day.

It was an exciting first period against the Sharks for Canes’ young’uns Jeff Skinner and Justin Faulk. Skinner nailed a difficult shot glove side of Thomas Greiss at 7:31 from a pass off of Jussi Jokinen. It marked Skinny’s 16th tally of the season. Three minutes later Justin Faulk scored a power play goal thanks to a stellar set-up from Jiri Tlusty and Eric Staal. Tlusty extended his point streak to 6 games with that little play. It was Staal’s 7th point in four contests. It was Faulk’s 5th goal of the season. The 19 year old is making quite the argument for Rookie of the Year.

San Jose took two penalties in the first twenty minutes. Jamie McGinn sat for roughing and Greiss was called for hooking on Jeff Skinner. Shots on goal were pretty even at 7-6 in Canes favor. Justin Peters deflected a sniper from Joe Pavelski as the period came to a close to keep the lead at 2-0. … [visit site to read more]
