Giving Caniacs the Finger
I was rushing to an appointment this morning, and in between cursing at traffic, I noticed I was surrounded by Caniacs. A trunk, SUV, and sedan were proudly sporting Carolina Hurricanes magnets on their vehicles. The tension fell from my shoulders and I smiled. I wanted to signal the drivers with a supportive, “Let’s go Canes,” salute. It is then I realized I had no such gesture. Being a Buckeye gal, I can throw my arms into an O-H and I’m guaranteed an I-O silent reply. This is unacceptable gang. We must have a fan signal. Check out the first [...]
Carolina Hockey Welcomes NASCAR Fans
I am not one to shy away from banter. Actually, you are likely to find me initiating and encouraging a little jousting between my fellow FanSided NHL writers. There is always one witty (*cough* not really *cough*) mock that I hear time and time again. The wordplay may be used differently, but it forever returns to NASCAR. Whether it is in reference to the lack or fans in the arena, or how dim-witted the puckheads are in Carolina, folks outside of the south love to throw NASCAR in their rapid-fire teasing. On Twitter, I’ve received a #StickToNASCAR hashtag. I’ve been [...]

Offical 2011 All-Star Game Logo Released
The NHL and the Carolina Hurricanes released the official logo to the 2011 NHL All-Star Game. The announcements of the logo has been the biggest news since the announcement of the all-star game in Raleigh. The logo is underlined with the Hurricanes logo and looks great in my opinion. The other news was the announcement of a 5,000 ft banner to hang off the RBC Plaza in downtown. The banner will feature former All-Stars Patrick Kane, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, and Hurricanes captain Eric Staal. The banner should be completed by Saturday for the 5th annual Raleigh Wide Open. The [...]
Hurricanes Summer News Clippings
Photo Provided by Yardbarker.com The Carolina Hurricanes have had some noticeable things already happen this summer. The biggest new was when Peter Karmanos Jr. told the world that he was looking for a minority owner to take over 49% of the teams finances. When giving a statement Karmanos Jr. had this to say, “My partner, Tom Thewes, passed away two years ago, and we have been putting around trying to figure how to replace the partner,” said Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. , who currently controls 100 percent of the franchise. “We just went to Allen & Co. to explore [...]
Player Review: Tuomo Ruutu
Provided By Yardbarker.com Tuomo Ruutu was known as a injury plagued player while playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. In 2007-2008 the Hurricanes and Blackhawks decided to make a trade for two former top 5 draft picks when the Blackhawks sent Ruutu to Carolina for Andrew Ladd at the trade deadline. Ruutu helped the team take off after the deadline, but the Hurricanes would be eliminated from the post season on the last day of the season. Ruutu has brought physical element to Carolina along with the ability finish, pun intended, goals. In 2009-2010 Tuomu Ruutu played only 54 games for [...]
Player Review: Chad LaRose
Chad LaRose’s season can be summed up in one word, injuries. Chad LaRose has been a energy guy who gives everything he’s got, every night since his call to the NHL in 2005-2006. LaRose coming off of a career year in 2008-2009, which he scored 19 goals and assisted on 12 more for a total of 31 points. However, 2009-2010 would prove to be a difficult one for LaRose as he would fight injuries just to be able to play. In 2009-2010 Chad LaRose dressed only 56 times compared to 81 games the season before. Even though LaRose played 25 [...]
