The Next Face of the NHL?

AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

Tuesday the hockey world learned that Washington’s captain and superstar Alexander Ovechkin would not be attending the All-Star Game or its associated festivities. In what I viewed as nothing more than a temper-tantrum, Ovi claimed that he should not be there because he is currently suspended. Like the rest of the world, I took to the Twitter to express my thoughts. @Esbee92 I swear this is my last tweet about Ovi. If you want to be the face of the NHL you have to actually BE THE FACE OF THE NHL. This tiny tweet generated a really great conversation with [...]

Canes Now Winless in Seven Straight

AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Carolina Hurricanes (8-17-4) and Calgary Flames (12-13-2) battled it out last night in a strange, high-scoring affair. Calgary came out hard in the first period, putting 10 shots on goal in just the first few minutes of the game and it looks like the Canes just couldn’t get their feet out from underneath them. The Flames scored their first goal just 3:07 in from Jerome Iginla and registered another one late in the period from Lee Stempniak as Calgary lead 2-0 after the first. It wouldn’t take long into the second period for the Flames to strike again as [...]

Canes Face Flames in Calgary: Game Day Preview

AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

After a heartbreaking loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Canes traveled to Alberta to prepare to face the Calgary Flames to begin a four game Canadian road trip. The Flames are coming off of a 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks and are struggling through their season with an 11-13-2 record overall. They are third to last in the Western Conference above the Ducks and Blue Jackets. The 8-16-4 Canes are not faring better, as they sit in last place in the Eastern Conference trailing the New York Islanders who have games at hand. That was painful to write. Fans [...]

Around the NHL in 30 Days: Flames that Skinner Doused

AUTHOR: | IN: Around the NHL in 30 Days | COMMENTS: None Yet

Calgary Flames are next up in FanSided’s Around the NHL in 30 Days. You may remember the only encounter the Canes  had with this Western Conference team last year. The game was played on 1-11-11 and we won in an exciting overtime shootout 5-6. Jussi Jokinen was in Calgary’s business like a dog nose in a stranger’s crotch claiming 2 goals and a helper. Not to discredit the athletic performance of Jokinen, but Jeff Skinner and Cam Ward pulled the trigger that took down the Flames. I swear we will get to Calgary preview, but we must pause for a replay (I mean, Skinny always [...]

Size’Em Up Sunday: Calgary Flames

AUTHOR: | IN: Size'Em Up Sunday | COMMENTS: None Yet

Size’Em Up Sunday is like the Peeping Tom of hockey, but instead of peering into stranger’s windows, we are looking inside the competition. This Sunday, Ryan Agnew provides us with a juicy look at his Calgary Flames. Ryan is the Lead Writer for Flame For Thought, a fellow FanSided Sports Network blog. Calgary finished three points behind the Chicago Blackhawks last season. We feel your pain guys. So close, yet, so far away. Caniacs, I introduce you to Mr. Agnew… 1.) Sum up the Flames’ 2010-11 season in one word: Blindingly-mediocre. (Arguably, this two words. Anyone want to fight?) 2.) What is your [...]

Hurricanes Take On New Look Flames in Calgary

AUTHOR: | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Hurricanes look to win their fifth in seven games tonight as they see game two of the road trip take them to Calgary and the new look Flames. This also is a homecoming for Brandon Sutter. This will mark the first time Sutter will play in Calgary as a NHL-er against his dad Brent Sutter and uncle Darryl Sutter. The Flames have completely revamped their team trading away two of their stars in Oli Jokinen and Dion Phaneuf. The Flames have added Ian White, Matt Stajan, Alex Kotalik, Chris Higgins, Niklas Hagman, and Jamal Mayers. Tonight will be the [...]
