Analysis

1.

Taylor Hall
Left Wing
Windsor Spitfires (OHL)
Forget the raging debate over whether Hall or Tyler Seguin, the prototypical playmaking centre from the OHL’s Plymouth Whalers, is the better No. 1 pick. Watch Hall just once and he removes all doubts. This guy is absolutely electric. His speed is other-wordly; when he’s skating with the puck, he seems to be travelling through a different dimension. NHL fans are going to worship him; NHL defencemen are going to be terrified of him. Add to that a flare for scoring – especially in big games – and the fact he’s led [...]

Player Review: Ray Whitney

Ray Whitney is a player who has played with many different teams but seemed to find his niche with the Carolina Hurricanes.  Ray Whitney had his best NHL season with the Hurricanes in 2006-2007 when he tallied 32 goals and 41 assist for a total of 83 points.  Ray won his only cup with the Hurricanes in 2005-2006.  As I already stated Whitney has been a well traveled player.  He was drafted by the expansion San Jose Sharks in 1991, 2nd round and 23rd overall.  Ray also played for the Oilers, Panthers,  Blue Jackets, and Redwings.

Brandon Sutter was the first round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2007.  Sutter comes from a long line of hockey players and what some people would say is the first family of hockey.  He received his first NHL playing time in 2008-2009 playing a total of 50 games totaling 6 points including a goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The big story was when he was knocked out in a center ice collision by Doug Weight of the New York Islanders, which pretty much the 2008-2009 campaign for Sutter.
The 2009-2010 did not start the way that Brandon [...]

Hurricanes Summer News Clippings

The Carolina Hurricanes have had some noticeable things already happen this summer.  The biggest new was when Peter Karmanos Jr. told the world that he was looking for a minority owner to take over 49% of the teams finances.  When giving a statement Karmanos Jr. had this to say, “My partner, Tom Thewes, passed away two years ago, and we have been putting around trying to figure  how to replace the partner,” said Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Jr. , who currently controls 100 percent of the franchise. “We just went to Allen & Co. to explore the [...]

Player Review: Eric Staal

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Eric Staal has always been seen as one of two corner stone in the Hurricanes franchise, especially now as they will once again rebuild.  Staal had his top season in 2005-2006 scoring 45 goals and tallying 55 assists for and 100 point season.  Since then Staal has shown the same promise, but has not scored at the same level.  Since then the closest he has gotten is 82 points in 2007-2008.  I think everybody wonders why Staal has not been able to amount a point total like 2005-2006.  The one thing that has not been doubted is Staal’s [...]

Player Review: Sergei Samsonov

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Sergei Samsonov has always been an ignigma in the NHL.  When the Bruins drafted him and Joe Thorton in the 1997 entry draft Samsonov was seen as the sure thing and the next great player in Boston.  However, that did not turn out to be the case.  Samsonov’s best season was in 2000-2001 when he scored 29 goals and assited on 46 others for a total of 75 points.  The next three teams Samsonov would play for would not be a good fit.  He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers at the deadline in 2006, where he would [...]

Player Review: Tuomo Ruutu

AUTHOR: Wesley | IN: Hurricanes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Provided By Yardbarker.com
Tuomo Ruutu was known as a injury plagued player while playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. In 2007-2008 the Hurricanes and Blackhawks decided to make a trade for two former top 5 draft picks when the Blackhawks sent Ruutu to Carolina for Andrew Ladd at the trade deadline. Ruutu helped the team take off after the deadline, but the Hurricanes would be eliminated from the post season on the last day of the season. Ruutu has brought physical element to Carolina along with the ability finish, pun intended, goals.
In 2009-2010 Tuomu Ruutu played only 54 games [...]
