With a 0-2-1 record on their east coast swing, the Hurricanes are now back below .500 with a 9-10-5 record.  They sit in seventh in the Metropolitan only one point above everybody’s favorite tire fire the New York Islanders.

Despite the Canes awful record on this road trip, there is no denying that they outplayed both New York and Boston.  Well at least until the third period started.  The Hurricanes entered each third period either with the lead or tied yet was unable to come away with a win in every one.  It was an

Cory Fogg over at Canes and Coffee wrote a report on the Hurricanes start and their playoff chances.  He also breaks down a few trades that could help the Hurricanes make a playoff push this season and what it would take to get those players and recommends Jaroslav Halak as one of those players.  I think I recall someone making that argument a while ago, but I can’t quite remember who.

Next is an article over at Hockey Graphs that details two metrics that most playoff teams are consistently the leaders in.  It’s a real heavy stat article so if you’re not into that thing you might not enjoy it, but it details how teams that lead in xGF% and CF% almost always make the playoffs.  And guess what the Canes are at the top of the league in both stats.  Yes Lloyd Christmas I’m saying there is a chance
