The Carolina Hurricanes will join seven other NHL teams to participate in the Traverse City Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The Canes will participate in the annual tourney for the 5th time in franchise history.
The Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, and New York Rangers will compete in the Ted Lindsay Division. The Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues will compete in the Gordie Howe Division.
The tournament starts on September 12. The Carolina Hurricanes will play the Buffalo Sabres at 4:00 pm (ET). The Canes will take on the Dallas Stars on September 13 at 3:30 pm, the New York Rangers on September 15 at 6:30 pm, and a team that has yet to be determined on September 16.
The Carolina Hurricanes will play the team in the Gordie Howe Division that is equal to them in the standings on the 16th.
In 2009, the Carolina Hurricanes won the Traverse City Tournament championship.
The Traverse City tournament has featured current day NHL stars like Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, Jamie Benn, T.J. Oshie, and many others. Ilya Kovalchuk and Dany Heatley have also played in the prospect tournament.
All eyes will be on Carolina Hurricanes top prospect and 2014 first round draft pick Haydn Fleury. He will look to have a big performance in the tourney and hope to improve his status in the organization.
