Carolina Hurricanes: Sergey Tolchinsky Invited to Russian World Junior Camp

Per reports, Carolina Hurricanes prospect Sergey Tolchinsky has been invited to Russia’s World Junior team camp in early August. He will not attend the Hurricanes’ prospect development camp which starts on July 21 and ends on July 26.

Coming off of his second year in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Sergey Tolchinsky improved vastly over his rookie season.

In 66 regular season games played in the 2013-2014 season, Sergey Tolchinsky scored 31 goals and had 60 assists. He tallied 51 points in 62 games for Sault Ste. Marie in his rookie season in 2012-2013.

In the 2012-2013 U18 World Junior Championships, Sergey Tolchinsky posted 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist) in 7 games played for the Russians. He tallied 4 points in 4 games in that year’s Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

Sergey Tolchinsky was not included on the Carolina Hurricanes’ 2014 prospect development camp roster that was released on Tuesday, July 15.

At 5’9″, 170 lbs, Sergey Tolchinsky’s size has been one of the few things that has been working against him over the years, but his talent on offense is probably the best among all Carolina Hurricanes prospects.

Sergey Tolchinsky signed a 3-year Entry Level Contract with the Carolina Hurricanes after going undrafted in the 2013 NHL Draft.
