NHL Free Agency Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes Interested in Michael Del Zotto?

The Carolina Hurricanes have been active lately with the signings of Tim Gleason, Jay McClement, Drew MacIntyre, and Brad Malone. The Canes have also retained several restricted free agents, including Jiri Tlusty and Zach Boychuk.

The newest rumor surrounding the Carolina Hurricanes is their reported interest in Michael Del Zotto, former New York Rangers and Nashville Predators defenseman.

Just two years removed from a 41 point season, Michael Del Zotto is coming off a poor 2013-2014 season split between the New York Rangers and the Nashville Predators.

In 67 games played with the Rangers and Predators, Michael Del Zotto tallied 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists), and he was a -9 player.

In 317 NHL regular season games, Del Zotto has scored 27 goals and added 99 assists. He has a point total of 127 points in five NHL seasons. In 32 playoff games, Michael Del Zotto has 12 points and is a -7.

For the Carolina Hurricanes to bring in Michael Del Zotto, they would likely have to move a guy like John-Michael Liles or Jay Harrison for cap reasons.

Michael Del Zotto would likely take John-Michael Liles’ spot on the Carolina Hurricanes, if he was to be signed in Carolina.

Coming off a 2-year, $5.1 million contract, Michael Del Zotto may be in for a bit of a pay decrease next season.
