Carolina Hurricanes Sign Drew MacIntyre

On July 1, 2014, Carolina Hurricanes GM Ron Francis announced that the club have signed G Drew MacIntyre to a one-year, two-way contract.  The contract is reportedly worth $600,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the AHL level.  He is guaranteed $300,000.  MacIntyre is listed at 6’1”, 184 lbs.

MacIntyre has been with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL since the 2012-2013 season and appeared in 2 games for the Maple Leafs.  He sported a 0-1-0 record with a 2.53 GAA and a .917 save percentage.  The 31-year old comes to Raleigh, and eventually to Charlotte, as a 3rd goalie and likely starter in the AHL.

With the recent departures of backup/AHL goalies Mike Murphy and John Muse, the Hurricanes/Checkers were looking for a third goalkeeper.  MacIntyre will fill that role.

MacIntyre was selected 121st overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings and has passed through the farm systems of Vancouver and Buffalo before reaching Toronto.  He was named to the AHL’s Second All-Star Team in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.
