The Carolina Hurricanes announced their decisions on their pending restricted free agents on Monday.
Jiri Tlusty will look to be a top-six player once again with the Carolina Hurricanes next season, so giving him a qualifying offer was a good move, even though he may get an offer from another team.
Zach Boychuk and Michal Jordan also received qualifying offers. They are border line NHL players, so they will likely get a good chance to make the team out of training camp.
Justin Shugg, Jared Staal, Rasmus Rissanen, and Greg Nemisz will likely all play in the AHL next season. Jared Staal could sneak his way into contenton for a fourth-line spot, and the same goes for Greg Nemisz. Rissanen could decide to play in Europe.
The decision to not qualify Andrei Loktionov was a bit surprising. The Russian forward played very well down the final stretch of the season. He suffered a serious shoulder injury in the World Championships in May.
Drayson Bowman has been putzing around in the Carolina Hurricanes organization for years, and the Canes finally decided to let him go into free agency.
Aaron Palushaj could’ve competed for a bottom-six role on the Carolina Hurricanes next season, but instead he will be searching for a new team.
Tommi Kivisto spect all of last season playing with Ilves in the Liiga, Finland’s professional hockey league.
