Carolina Hurricanes Rumors: Brett Bellemore and Manny Malhotra to Test Free Agency

The NHL Draft has just ended, but the action is not over yet. Per Chip Alexander of the News Observer, the Carolina Hurricanes plan on letting Brett Bellemore, Manny Malhotra, and Justin Peters test free agency. They will not re-sign Mike Komisarek or Radek Dvorak

“Francis says Malhotra, Bellemore and Peters will go into free agency.”

The news on Brett Bellemore, Manny Malhotra, and Justin Peters is rather surprising. Brett Bellemore seemed like an ideal fit for the bottom pairing on defense. He played well last season with Ron Hainsey.

Manny Malhotra claimed the fourth-line center spot last season and became a very reliable player in that role. He was in the top-two in faceoff percentage across the entire league. He was also give the alternate captain role on the Carolina Hurricanes.

Justin Peters is the one I understand the most. He deserves a shot to go somewhere he may actually be able to play, and with two goalies already on the Carolina Hurricanes roster, he would not get many chances to play.

Francis says Canes will not re-sign Dvorak or Komisarek.”

Radek Dvorak and Mike Komisarek played in very minor roles last year, and they should not be brought back. Ron Francis made the correct call there.
