The Carolina Hurricanes drafted Elias Lindholm, a talented Swedish forward, with their first pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

The Carolina Hurricanes passed on potential picks like Valeri Nichushkin (picked 10th by the Dallas Stars) and Bo Horvat (picked 9th by the Vancouver Canucks).

The young, Swedish playmaker had a rough rookie year. Elias Lindholm battled through many injuries as a rookie, but he still came out of the season with 21 points in 58 games played.

Elias Lindholm saw a lot of time with fellow youngsters Jeff Skinner and Riley Nash. Together, they formed a very good third line for a good portion of the season.

The Swedish forward has a very bright future ahead of him. Even though the Carolina Hurricanes haven’t gotten big time immediate results from Elias Lindholm, I think that Lindy will end up being the right pick.

Expect Elias Lindholm to have a big season in 2014-2015 with a new coach staff headed by Bill Peters, a coach who knows how to coach young talent.
