#5 New General Manager

One of the first orders of business in this Canes offseason was the handoff of the reins from Jim Rutherford to long-time Canes captain and fan favorite Ron Francis. Many expect him to get the organization back on track, and his first act of firing Kirk Muller and Co. (minus fellow former captain Rod Brind’Amour) has put him in the good graces of most Caniacs.

It will be interesting to see how he handles the draft and the naming of the next coach. Interviews have been going on behind closed doors, and the candidates are merely rumored. Clearly, Francis doesn’t want his next step as GM to be made for him by the media.

So far, Francis appears to have a plan and is executing it accordingly. Given most of the tweets/comments I saw about JR, a new GM is reason enough to be excited for next year.
