Per reports, the Carolina Hurricanes are going to wait until the end of the stanley cup playoffs before they hire their next head coach. They will do this because Ulf Samuelsson, assistant coach for the New York Rangers, is the top candidate for the job.
Ulf Samuelsson, 50, was an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes from 2006-2011. He then went to Sweden to coach Modo from 2011-2013. He spent this past season with the New York Rangers’ coaching staff as an assistant. They will likely advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
Bob McKenzie of TSN brought Ulf Samuelsson’s name up as a potential option back when Kirk Muller was first fired back in early May. Josh Rimer of sportsnet.ca is the one who reported the update on Wednesday morning.
I’m hoping these rumors are not accurate, The Carolina Hurricanes would benefit greatly from an experienced coach to help through these tough times. While Ulf Samuelsson could be a good coach, he did not do very well as the head man in Modo.
Ulf Samuelsson, on the other hand, is a guy who demands a lot out of his players. He will not accept slackers.
Aaron Ward has reported that the Carolina Hurricanes have not yet narrowed their head coaching candidates to one person.
