Ron Francis gave a few updates on the Carolina Hurricanes and the offseason in an interview with the local media on May 23.

He started off by saying that he is well into the interviewing process for the next head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes. He said that he had interviewed three guys already, and that he is expecting to interview three more candidates very soon.

Big name head coaches available for the Carolina Hurricanes include Barry Trotz , John Tortorella, and potentially Dan Bylsma. Other candidates include the likes of John Stevens, Kevin Dineen, Ulf Samuelsson and many others.

Francis said that he plans to hire a head coach for the Carolina Hurricanes prior to the NHL Entry Draft, which takes place on June 27 and 28.

Ron Francis confirmed that Alexander Semin had offseason wrist surgery, as most of us already assumed. It’s now official that Semin was dealing with a significant injury for nearly the entire season. A healthy Alexander Semin is something the Carolina Hurricanes severely need. Semin should be fully recovered by training camp.

Not much of an update was provided on Andrei Loktionov. He “severely” injured his shoulder in the IIHF World Championships. Francis did say that he was scheduled to have shoulder surgery in Switzerland.

Ron Francis shocked a lot of people last week when he said that Eric Staal‘s future with the team depended on the budget going into next season. He said on Friday that the budget for next season has not been set. He said “We’re still looking at that”.
