Montreal Canadiens vs. New York Rangers

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Both the Candiens and the Rangers are coming off underdog round two victories. This will be a great series start to finish, but I’m going to take the New York Rangers.

After years of coming just short in the playoffs, the New York Rangers are poised to go the distance this season. The New York Rangers have had great scoring depth at forward with eight forwards tallying at least five points through the first two rounds, but most of all, they have been very solid defensively.

The Montreal Canadiens have been rolling offensively so far in the playoffs. The charge has been led by defenseman P.K. Subban. The reigning norris trophy winner has 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) in 11 playoff games. He leads the Habs in points.

I think the New York Rangers will be able to contain speed and explosiveness of P.K. Subban and the Canadiens’ offense in round three.

The biggest matchup will be in net. Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist, two Olympians, will battle it out in goal for their respective teams. Both goalies have played very well in the playoffs, but in this series, I am going to pick Henrik Lundqvist.

Henrik Lundqvist shut down the Philadelphia Flyers in round one, and he was absolutely spectacular in round two against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in round two.

Having Chris Kreider healthy will also be a huge advantage for the New York Rangers. Expect him and the rest of the Rangers’ offense to have a big series.

Prediction: New York Rangers in 6 games
