Over the next few weeks, Cardiac Cane will take a look at every player on the Carolina Hurricanes and see how they played in the 2013-2014 season.
2013-2014 Regular Season Stats: 79 games played, 21 goals, 40 assists, 61 points, -13
Eric Staal came into the 2013-2014 season coming off a great season in 2013. He finished with 18 goals, 35 assists, and 52 points in 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2013 season.
A serious knee injury that Eric Staal suffered in the 2013 IIHF World Championships really hurt the captain’s early season point production. That lack of production continued for a majority of the 2013-2014 season for Eric Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes.
As the face of the franchise and a star player, Eric Staal has very high expectations, and he just did not live up to those expectations in the 2013-2014 season. 61 points and a -13 plus/minus is unacceptable from Eric Staal.
Eric staal was often unnoticeable when he was on the ice. That simply can not happen. He needs to lead by example on the ice. If Eric Staal’s teammates see that he is going hard and playing fierce all the time, they will be more inclined and motivated to do the same thing.
The Carolina Hurricanes go as Eric Staal goes, and we’ve seen that since he came into the NHL in 2003. Eric Staal needs to play at a high level for the Carolina Hurricanes.
He will need to get completely healthy this offseason and train well. When he comes in next season, he will look to have a big bounce back season.
