Carolina Hurricanes Report: Canes’ Coaching Carousel

My Opinion

At this point, the only former teammate of Ron Francis I’d consider for the head coaching vacancy is Kevin Dineen. He’s the only one with a bit of recent NHL head coaching experience and relative success.

Ulf Samuelsson has done a great job with the New York Rangers, but he has very little experience as a coach in the NHL. I think the Carolina Hurricanes need an experienced a head coach, and Samuelsson isn’t that guy.

The idea of bringing in Ed Olczyk is laughable to me. That would be a pretty bad decision, and I don’t see any way the former head coach turned broadcaster will end up as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Rick Tocchet, former head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning could be just as bad. He helped get the Bolts to 19 wins, yes 19 wins, in the 2009-2010 season. He led the team to 34 wins in the 2010-2011 season prior to getting fired.
