Despite the warm sun and blooming flowers in North Carolina, summer can be a little depressing for hockey Carolina Hurricanes fans. By time June rolls around, you start to miss the chill of the ice, thrilling goals, and the roar of the crowd. Don’t fret, Caniacs! There is an event at the Garner Ice House on Saturday, June 7th that will satisfy your cravings while helping the community. I’m giving you seven reasons why should support the Garner Police Athletics/Activities League (PAAL) by attending the 3rd annual Guns ‘N Hoses Broomball Tournament.
7. Fun for the whole family.
The event kicks-off at Noon in the front parking lot with Public Safety Day. There will be demonstrations by area public safety agencies, inflatables for the kids and music.
6. Support a great cause.
Proceeds go to support P.A.A.L., a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities to enhance youth and family achievement while improving police-community relationships and reducing delinquency in the community.
5. It’s cheap.
Tickets are $10 for adults (13 and older), $5 for kids (5-12), and kids under five are free.
4. Food trucks!
The food trucks will also be rolling in around Noon, so come hungry.
3. You could win a prize.
A silent auction with sports memorabilia and other fun items will be available, including a 50/50 raffle throughout the day.
2. It’s truly a community event.
Perhaps, you’ll see some of your fellow Caniacs or a few of the Storm Squad ladies.
1. It’s hockey!
Ok, it’s not exactly the hockey we watch at PNC. However, I guarantee you’ll love watching the police officers, firefighters, and other county employees battle it out on the ice broomball style.
The broomball games will begin inside at 1:00 p.m. and will continue every 30 minutes throughout the day. They anticipate six teams competing from local public safety agencies and Garner schools. Following “pool play,” the top four teams will move to a single elimination playoff series with the championship game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
See you there, Caniacs!
