The Carolina Hurricanes have been involved in several rumors over the past few days. With a head coach vacancy and big changes expected soon, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Darren Dreger reported Thursday night that the Carolina Hurricanes are one of three teams to have contacted former Nashville Predators head coach Barry Trotz. The Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers have also reached out to him. Surprisingly, the Vancouver Canucks have not.
Barry Trotz could be a solid option for the Carolina Hurricanes, but his lack of success as of late with the Nashville Predators may be a bit troubling. Despite that, Barry Trotz is the hottest name on the NHL coaching market.
Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun expects former Carolina Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller to join the St. Louis Blues as an assistant coach. It was expected that Muller would have to take an assistant coach job prior to getting back in the head coach market. St. Louis certainly isn’t a bad place to be an assistant coach. He will likely learn a lot from head coach Ken Hitchcock.
Simmonds also thinks Kevin Dineen will be the next head coach in Carolina, but he isn’t the only one who thinks that.
Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Dispatch believes that Ron Francis, General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, will offer Cam Ward around to teams to see if there are any takers for the former Conn Smythe winning goalie. The 30-year-old netminder went 10-12-6 in the 2013-2014 season.
