My Opinion

The Carolina Hurricanes have a big decision to make this summer about their coaching staff. Kirk Muller has an 80-80-27 record as a head coach in the NHL and with the Carolina Hurricanes. Through nearly 200 games, Kirk Muller has yet to show that he can be anything more than mediocre.

I think Kirk Muller can be a very good head coach in the NHL. He handles himself well and he has a good system, but he has not been able to get his message across to the team, and that won’t change.

From listening to the exit interviews, you can hear from these players that Kirk Muller has lost the locker room and just can’t get his message through to his players.

When Cam Ward was asked if Kirk Muller had gotten across to his players, or if he had lost the locker room, he responded by saying he didn’t want to go there. When Anton Khudobin was asked a very similar question, he responded by saying that he got his message, but he can’t speak for his teammates.

I don’t see any scenario where Kirk Muller returns next season. He has had plenty of talent at his disposal over the past few seasons, but he has yet to be anything more than mediocre.

I agree with Landon that the Carolina Hurricanes should search for a new head coach.
