The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they will hold a hockey operations press conference on Monday. The press conference is slated for noon. It will be live streamed on the Carolina Hurricanes website, and you can listen to it live on 99.9 FM The Fan.

It is expected that Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, will step down from his position of General Manager. It has been rumored that Ron Francis will be promoted to General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes. Jim Rutherford may retain the position of President.

We may get word on the future of Carolina Hurricanes’ head coach Kirk Muller during the press conference. If he is fired, they may not announce his replacement yet. They would likely take their time, but it will happen before the Draft in June.

Jim Rutherford has been the General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes since they moved to North Carolina from Hartford, Connecticut in 1997. He is responsible for drafting and retaining the likes of Eric Staal and Cam Ward, among others.

Ron Francis has been a member of the Carolina Hurricanes’ front office since November of 2006 when he was hired as the team’s director of player development. He was then promoted to Assistant General Manager in October of 2007 before he returned to ice level as an associate head coach of Paul Maurice in December of 2008. He returned to a full-time spot in the front office in the summer of 2011 as the director of hockey operations. He is now the vice president of hockey operations.

Jim Rutherford took Ron Francis under his wing, and he has basically been a GM in training for years.
