Matt Corrente Done In Charlotte?

The Checkers season ended on Sunday and it looks like one of the many free agents on the roster will not be coming back as defenseman Matt Corrente tweeted this yesterday:

That tweet doesn’t necessarily mean that Corrente won’t be coming back, but it sure seems that way.

The 26 year old was signed in the offseason and gave the Hurricanes some depth on defense that had some NHL experience. Corrente surprised in training camp by sticking around until the last cuts, but ended up playing the whole season in Charlotte.

In 72 games, Corrente had 11 points including two goals and nine assists, but was more known as a tough-as-nails defensive defenseman.

With younger defenseman such as Keegan Lowe, Danny Biega, Austin Levi and Dennis Robertson on the roster, it makes sense that the Checkers and Hurricanes organization would be willing to let Corrente leave.

It could also play a big part in other free agents including Mark Flood and Michal Jordan.
