Charlotte Checkers Recap

The Checkers are still in the playoff race — and improving their chances after last night as they defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins, 3-0.

All three Charlotte goals came in the first period as Victor Rask, Brett Sutter and Zach Boychuk all scored in the first 13 minutes to set up the lead that would last until the end of the game.

John Muse made 30 saves for the shutout, while Boychuk and Rask added assists to their goals.

The Checkers are back in the final playoff spot, but not with a healthy lead. They lead the Rochester Americans by a single point and the Rockford Ice Hogs by two. However, the Americans have three games in hand and the Ice Hogs, two.

More or less, the Checkers can put themselves in a good position in the standings, but it will not be up to them on making the postseason, which is not a good position to be in.
