Charlotte Checkers Recap

At the start of this weekend, playoffs for the Checkers seemed likely, but after three losses, including a 6-4 defeat by the Oklahoma City Barons, yesterday, the Checkers’s playoff hopes are severely deteriorating.

Charlotte is in 10th place and only a point out of the last playoff spot, but both the Barons and Rochester Americans have two games in hand. The two games against the Barons were arguably the most important of the year and the team could not execute.

Zach Boychuk actually got the scoring started, but four straight from the Barons in the second period put the Checkers in a hole. Chris Terry got one back before the end of the period.

In the third, Mark Flood and Justin Shugg scored to tie it, but with 35 seconds left, Curtis Hamilton scored the game-winner, before an empty netter was added on.

The Checkers have four games left to cement a playoff spot that is slipping from their grasps.
