Charlotte Checkers Recap

The Checkers have fallen out of eighth place after a 1-0 loss to the Oklahoma City Barons last night. C.J. Stretch scored the lone goal in the second period. John Muse made 34 saves, while Richard Bachman had 31 for the shutout.

The two teams are now tied with the Rockford Ice Hogs for the last playoff spot in the West with 75 points. However, Charlotte has played one more than the other two, pushing the team to 10th in the conference.

This loss will have a huge consequence on who gets into the playoffs at the end of the season. Had the Checkers won, they would be four points ahead of the Barons and two in front of the Ice Hogs. Instead, the other two teams have a better chance of making the postseason.

However, if there’s any good news, it’s that the Checkers will have another chance against the Barons this afternoon at 5 p.m. Hopefully for the team, scoring will come easier in the second game.
