Game Analysis

The Carolina Hurricanes kept their playoff hopes alive Thursday night when they defeated the Dallas Stars 4-1 at the PNC Arena.

Anton Khudobin continues to write his incredible story. He made 33 saves on 34 shots against the Dallas Stars. I don’t think saying “he has been incredible” does enough, but he really has been absolutely incredible this season. Without him this year, the Carolina Hurricanes would likely be look at one of the first few draft picks.

John Michael Liles played his best game as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. With Andrej Sekera out of the lineup, he got an increase in minutes. He took advantage of it, and he was a true game changer. He tallied 3 points on the night.

The Carolina Hurricanes got off to another slow start against the Dallas Stars. They were out-shot 13-8 in period one, but they came back and dominated in the second and third period.

The power play was a huge bright spot from the Carolina Hurricanes. They played very well on the 5-on-4, but they struggled during their abbreviated 5-on-3 power plays. The Carolina Hurricanes went 2/5 on the power play.

Justin Faulk now has goals in consecutive games after his second period goal on Thursday. Jeff Skinner‘s 6-game point streak came to an end on Thursday, but he was a +1.

Andrej Sekera warmed up prior to the game, but he did not play due to an injury. The Carolina Hurricanes have not announced anything about his injury. Mike Komisarek replaced Sekera last second.

The Carolina Hurricanes have gotten points in 4 straight games (2-0-2). They are 6 points out of a playoff spot. They improved their record to 34-32-11 (79 points) with the win against the Dallas Stars.

The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night at the PNC Arena. With 5 games remaining in the regular season, the Carolina Hurricanes will likely have to win out to have a chance of making the playoffs.
