Charlotte Checkers Recap

It may not have been the easiest or best way to do it, but the Checkers were able to earn two valuable points over the Oklahoma City Barons last night as they won 3-2 in a shootout.

Matt Marquardt got the Checkers on the board in the second period before Victor Rask scored his 13th of the season to put the team up by two.

But with three minutes left in regulation, the Barons scored twice to force overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, Justin Shugg and Marquardt both scored in the shootout to earn the victory, while John Muse made four saves in the skills competition for the win.

Muse had 32 saves in total, while four different Checkers recorded assists.

With the win, the Checkers now have a three-point lead over the Barons and Rochester Americans.

The two teams play tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. and while this win was important, winning in regulation would go a lot further tomorrow.
