What To Expect From Ron Francis As General Manager Of The Carolina Hurricanes

With reports coming out that Jim Rutherford will step down from the position of general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, it looks like NHL Hall of Famer Ron Francis will succeed him.

Many have looked at Ron Francis as a “Mini Jim Rutherford”. A lot of people expect him to come in and do the exact same things that Jim Rutherford did during his time as general manager.

Ron Francis has the potential to be a huge upgrade and breath of fresh air. People underestimate the influence that a general manager has on the players who play for him. Ron Francis is a man and a player that everyone knows. He is a legend, and that will only help when it comes time to sign big time free agents and trading. Everyone around the league respects him.

Jim Rutherford played goalie in the NHL, but he is not like Ron Francis. Francis is one of the all-time greats, and one of the best players to ever don a Carolina Hurricane jersey.

To think Ron Francis will come in and do nothing is ridiculous. I think we will see big changes in the organization with Ron Francis calling the shots. I think those big changes include Kirk Muller being let go, but we will see.

The Ron Francis era should be an exciting and successful one. Hopefully Ron Francis can do what’s necessary to get the Carolina Hurricanes back where they should be, the playoffs.
