Carolina Hurricanes News

  • The Hurricanes lost to the New York Islanders last night, 5-4. Read the recap here.
  • GM Jim Rutherford should be seen in a positive light as his days come to an end as general manager (Cardiac Cane)
  • The Canes assigned Ryan Murphy to the Checkers yesterday

My Opinion

It may seem worth it to keep Murphy in the NHL to gain more experience, but at least with the Checkers he has something to play for as the team is still in the playoff hunt.

The defenseman has also usually improved after a stint in Charlotte, so if he finishes out the season there, it won’t hurt.

This demotion won’t hurt Murphy’s progression even if some believe he should be in the NHL.

Charlotte Checkers Recap

It may have taken until the third period, but the Charlotte Checkers were able to get an important win over the 15th-placed team in the Western Conference, the Iowa Wild, last night as they won by a 2-1 score.

Zach Boychuk scored in the first period to give the Checkers a 1-0 lead before Kris Foucault scored in the second to tie it up.

With less than nine minutes remaining in the third, Chris Terry scored his 27th goal of the season and the game-winner on the powerplay.

John Muse had 24 saves in the win. The Checkers and Wild play again today at 8:05 p.m.
