Charlotte Checkers Recap

The Checkers continued and improved their playoff chances last night by defeating the Lake Erie Monsters, 5-2.

Sean Dolan and Chris Terry scored in the first period to give the Checkers a 2-0 lead heading into the second stanza. But by the end of the second it was tied at two Trevor Cheek and Stefan Elliot scored for the Monsters.

Three goals in more than 11 minutes led the Checkers to the convincing win in the third period. Danny Biega got the scoring started before Brett Sutter and Aaron Palushaj also scored to give Charlotte its five goals.

Michal Jordan and Zach Boychuk had two assists each, while Sutter and Palushaj added an assist. Three other Checkers recorded assists. John Muse continued his strong play of late, recording 35 saves on 37 shots.

The Checkers are now four points out of the eighth and final playoff spot with two games in hand on the Rockford Ice Hogs.

The team will see the Monsters again today at 1:30 p.m.
